SYMPOSIUM 1770 in 2020 is CANCELLED
The year 2020 is of special significance to all Australia, being the 250th Anniversary of the landing at Botany Bay of Lt. James Cook, his crew and scientific party led by Joseph Banks, aboard HMB Endeavour, on 29th April 1770.
Unfortunately this year 2020, has proved to be most difficult and disruptive to all our plans to commemorate 1770.
Our planned meetings at Mallacoota and Point Hicks have had to be cancelled following the disastrous and widespread bushfires in Eastern Victoria.
The Captain Cook Society (Aust) in conjunction with major institutions, had co-ordinated a Symposium to coincide with these events titled "1770 in 2020"
-featuring leading speakers from Australia/ New Zealand and world wide.
HOWEVER with the rapid advance of the Covid19, Corona Virus and the declaration of emergency situations and rapidly changing advice, it has been seen as prudent and protective of members and guests to CANCEL the proposed Symposium.
We know that this will be disappointing to many of those anticipating attending, not to mention our presenters and speakers, however many of these may now not be able to travel or even to return to their own countries.
Our booking agents Trybooking have been very helpful in keeping news and advice updated and should be able to fairly rapidly make refunds to those who have already booked places.
It has been suggested that perhaps we can reschedule this all for 2021, as a 251st commemoration, but that is all a bit too much for just now, we will keep you informed on any future events.
Sorry for this news and situation, however we do strive to keep our members best interests and safety as a priority.
